How to Find Old Liked Videos on YouTube

YouTube’s Liked videos playlist only displays the newest 5,000 videos (YouTube Help). Older likes are often still in Google My Activity or a Takeout export. This guide shows two ways to find them—browse My Activity with no files, or open Takeout in LikesR to search by title, channel, or year and sort oldest first.

1. Why old likes disappear from the playlist

The Liked videos playlist is capped at 5,000 displayed videos and is ordered newest first, so likes from years ago fall off the visible list when you keep liking new videos. That is a display limit, not proof that Google deleted the like events.

If you open Liked videos on youtube.com today, you are browsing a newest-first window—not a complete lifetime archive. Searching inside that playlist will not surface likes that have already scrolled past the display cap.

Anecdotal reports (not official docs) say unliking recent videos can make older likes reappear in the playlist. For the full FAQ on the cap, read YouTube liked videos 5,000 limit.

2. Option A — Find one old like in My Activity

When you remember a title and only need one confirmation, Google My Activity is the lightest option—no zip files and no wait for Takeout.

Open myactivity.google.com, go to YouTube likes and dislikes, and use browser find. Community answers on Web Apps Stack Exchange describe this page as listing like events that the playlist UI no longer shows.

Pros: free, immediate, no third-party app. Cons: one long page that is hard to manage when you have thousands of likes, and you cannot sort oldest-first or filter by year the way a local archive can.

  1. Open My Activity → YouTube likes and dislikes.
  2. Search the page for a distinctive title word.
  3. If nothing matches, try Takeout—or accept that the event may no longer exist in Google’s activity data.

3. Option B — Takeout export for searchable history

For searchable history across years, use Google Takeout: select YouTube and YouTube Music with playlists included, and My Activity for YouTube. Expect a wait (sometimes hours) before download links appear, and download every archive part Google produces.

Look for Takeout/YouTube and YouTube Music/playlists/Liked videos.csv (Video Id,Time Added, UTC, no titles). Titles and channels come from My Activity JSON/HTML “Liked …” entries (including localized like verbs). Playlist CSV alone cannot search by title—pair it with My Activity when you care about names and channels.

Whether CSV or My Activity always retains every like from before certain history settings is not verified—treat exports as “what Google still has,” and phrase extras as “may contain” older rows. YouTube Music likes in Takeout are likewise not verified here. Step-by-step product picks: Takeout export guide.

4. Open the export in LikesR and find old likes

On the LikesR tool, drop the archive (.zip, .tgz, .json, .html, or .csv). Sort oldest first, filter by year, search title/channel/ID, and optionally keep only likes beyond the newest 5,000 so the list focuses on what the playlist no longer shows.

When you find what you need, export CSV, JSON, offline HTML, or bookmarks (including year folders)—see CSV export and search guide. No OAuth and no upload: files stay in the browser. LikesR cannot invent likes that are absent from My Activity and Takeout.

  1. Drop the Takeout zip (or JSON/HTML/CSV) into LikesR.
  2. Sort oldest first; filter by year or beyond newest 5,000.
  3. Search by title, channel, or video ID; export if needed.

Placeholder: LikesR after import—oldest-first sort, year filter, search box, and “beyond newest 5,000” (replace with a real UI screenshot when available).

5. What you still cannot find

Deleted videos, likes never recorded while history was off, or activity you purged from Google cannot be restored by LikesR or any third-party tool. Results depend entirely on what remains in My Activity and your Takeout.

If a video was removed from YouTube entirely, an ID in your CSV may still exist while playback fails—that is separate from “missing likes,” which means the like event itself is gone from Google’s records.

Processing is local. Optional oEmbed metadata needs explicit consent. More privacy detail is on the FAQ and contact page (gdxingchen@gmail.com).

FAQ

How do I find old liked videos on YouTube?

Use Google My Activity → YouTube likes and dislikes for quick lookups, or export with Google Takeout (Liked videos.csv for IDs/times and My Activity for titles) and search or sort oldest-first in a local viewer such as LikesR.

Why can't I see videos I liked years ago in Liked videos?

YouTube displays at most 5,000 videos in the Liked videos playlist, newest first. Older likes fall off that list even when the like events may still exist elsewhere in your Google activity.

Can I sort YouTube liked videos from oldest to newest?

Not in the YouTube Liked videos playlist UI, which is newest-first. After a Takeout export, LikesR can sort oldest to newest and filter by year.

Which Takeout file has titles of old likes?

My Activity YouTube JSON/HTML includes titles (and often channels) for Liked events. Liked videos.csv contains only Video Id and Time Added—no titles.

Does finding old likes require signing into a third-party app?

LikesR does not require Google login or OAuth. You download Takeout from Google yourself and open the files in the browser; they are not uploaded to LikesR servers.

Can any tool recover likes that are gone from My Activity and Takeout?

No. If Google no longer has the like event in My Activity or your Takeout export, nothing can restore it.
